Over time, most of us build up quite the collection of clothes. We buy pieces that catch our eye online or in the shops. We buy outfits for special occasions. We might have clothes that’ve been gifted by friends or loved ones (that you may not even like…).
The trouble for many women is that they feel overwhelmed by the amount of clothes they own, but still have too many days when they feel they have nothing to wear that feels ‘right’.
Having too many clothes is just as difficult as not having enough. Especially when most of what you have doesn’t light you up in the way you’d like.
But, we find it difficult to let things go because we don’t want to be wasteful or ungrateful and what if we desperately need that good quality woollen suit (that no longer fits) again one day?
The truth is that most of what’s in your over-stuffed wardrobe is no good for you – as you are today, at all. Reducing the volume will bring you the biggest sense of satisfaction ever but will also weirdly mean you find it easier to get dressed. Because you’ll be able to actually see what you have!
Try my simple 3 step method to reduce the clutter from your wardrobe
Remove anything that:
- Doesn’t fit you today.
- You don’t like wearing.
- Belongs to an old life you no longer lead.
Once you’ve removed these items from your wardrobe, you’ll (hopefully) be left with pieces that are viable options for you to wear on any given day. Clothes that fit you properly, you feel good in and that are relevant to your lifestyle.
Then, the next step is to start focussing in on the kind of clothes that make you feel great and that you want to wear.
What makes you feel good?
The way we choose to dress shows the world who we are. Your outfits are your packaging. If you wear shapeless, uninspiring outfits that feel somewhat lacking, that’s how you’ll show up in life.
I bet you’ve done the inner work – or are in the process of doing it. The next step in your journey could be matching your outside with what’s inside. And showing up as the fabulous woman you are today.
So, who are you today? How do you want to feel? How do you want to be seen?
Here are 3 tips to uplevel your outfits without spending a fortune on new clothes.
- Wear outfits that reflect your personality. Whether that’s luxurious neutrals in soft textures for a tonal classic look or bold colour clashing and dramatic prints
to make you stand out. Get experimental and see what make you feel fab. If you are lacking inspiration, use my free style quiz to find out your dominant style personality and how to dress as you. - Don’t forget to finish your outfits with accessories, from a simple pair of earrings to a colourful necklace, bracelet or a metallic belt – your style personality will dictate what your best ways of adding interest to your outfits are. Adding the finishing touches to an outfit is like putting sprinkles on your ice cream. Not essential but makes it feel much more special!
- Make some time to play in your wardrobe. Take one piece of clothing – say a skirt or a pair of trousers and see how many different outfits you can create using what you already own. When you find an outfit you like, take a photo and save it in an album on your phone so that when you are in a rush and feeling uninspired, you can remind yourself of what works.
