I know you are a gorgeous, unique and brilliant woman, but does the way you dress reflect that?
In my experience, women who are on a personal growth journey often have a yearning to have a fabulous style but lack the know-how, ideas and confidence to make the up level.
I see our clothes as our packaging – it’s what’s inside that really matters, but when your outside is as glorious as who you are inside, it’s easier for the world to really see you.
And more importantly, you feel ready to be seen, get more visible and BE more YOU!
How do you want to dress?
Getting your inspiration from Instagram, magazines or other women you know isn’t always helpful, because you are you. You don’t need to do what everyone else is doing. Trying to emulate other people’s style can actually make you feel bad, because you look different to them. You have different colouring, a different shape and that means you will suit a different look.
There are solid reasons why certain colours, shapes, fabrics and styles look great on your friend. Discovering your own unique way of dressing, one that makes you feel like the best version of you makes getting ready for the day quick, easy and fun. And when you know you look good, you carry yourself differently, which in turn makes people see you differently.
I call it feeling ‘bouncy’, that wonderful feeling when you step out of the hair salon with a bounce in your hair and a spring in your step. You walk tall and smile at strangers.
The first steps
How much of your wardrobe do you wear on a regular basis? My guess is not even half. And out of the section that you actually wear, how often do you feel confident in your choice of outfit? Buying more and more clothes without being discerning about your style is the biggest cause of wardrobe overwhelm.
My advice is to start thinning it out, removing all those pieces that don’t feel good and don’t truly reflect who you are.
Then when you have fewer pieces to choose from, you can start to get a real sense of what feels good and start to play with different combinations. (Scroll to the end to get my help with this for free!)
Tune into the themes that crop up again and again when you are feeling good.
- Is it a particular type of colour, a certain outfit combination – a looser top half and more structure on your lower half or vice versa?
- Does highlighting your waist make you feel good?
- Where do you tend to invest more?
- Are you a fabulous footwear fan, a sucker for a designer handbag, a magpie for colour or someone who’s clothes must feel like a soft hug?
Knowing this gives us clues as to what your true style might be.
The next steps
Like anything else you want to improve, you need to decide to dedicate some time to the project. Rather than continuing to add new pieces to your wardrobe over the next few years and keep on wondering whether or not they are really you, make time to take the exciting next steps to empower yourself around your personal style.
It won’t happen without some effort but it doesn’t need to be costly or difficult.
My approach to great style is to teach my clients what suits them, (and why), and then empower them to flex those ‘rules’ to fit their mood.
Style should be fun, fluid and authentic but in order to understand that, you need to see the possibilities.
